From Behind the Curtain: The Unseen Strength of a Coach's Wife
Alright, ladies, Mama Hen is talking to my coach's wives now!
Every year, my husband and I pack our bags, usually heading to a new city for our annual convention. It’s a tradition, a cornerstone of the coaching community. While our husbands are in meetings, strategizing, and networking, we wives have our own parallel universe running—a powerful gathering of support, laughter, and understanding.
But it wasn't always this way. Oh no, not by a long shot.

A History Lesson from Behind the Curtain
A few years back, I had the privilege of serving on our board as the historian. My job was to interview the elder wives, the trailblazers, the women who laid the groundwork for the sisterhood we cherish today. And let me tell you, their stories were nothing short of phenomenal.
They were present, a silent strength, but their role wasn't publicly acknowledged in the same way. There were no dedicated meetings, no organized support groups for them. So, with that incredible resilience that all coach's wives possess, they started creating their own. They found each other, shared stories, and built their own networks in the margins of those conventions.

Stepping Into the Light
It wasn't until relatively recently—the past 30 or 40 years—that we, as coach's wives, have truly come from behind the curtain. We've stepped into the light, not just as individuals, but as a recognized, vibrant, and essential part of the coaching community.
